At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. It's an enormous force for good. -- Barack Obama.

Library is adding NewTitles every week.  Look for them!

Don't forget these important policies!
Cesar Chavez Middle School library is open during the school year from 8:10 AM until 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  We close at 1:00 on Wednesday and 3:00 on Friday.  Students may come to the library during class time, break time and after school.  Students are requested to be considerate of others and keep their voices down.

Using a valid student ID*, students may check out up to two books.  There is a two week circulation period.  But if a student finish reading the book before the two weeks period , he/she can return the book and check out another one.
To ensure no loss of library privileges students are encouraged to turn in their items on time and in good condition.  Overdues are processed weekly. Students and their families are financially responsible for all items checked out in their name.
*A valid student ID will be issued free to each student three weeks after picture day. If a student loses his/her ID Card, then he/she needs to bring one from previous year or he/she will not be able to check out books from the library.

When a book is returned damaged the following fines will apply:
Minor damage (pencil work, underlining, minor water damage)  $2.00
Major Damage (mildew, profanity, gang tagging, excessive wear and tear, pen or marker marks, missing pages, bubble gum, food)  Replacement Cost of the book.
If the book is returned damaged, the student will not be allow to check out more books until the fines are pay or cleared.

Over due notices will be processed on Friday afternoon to be distributed to students on Monday during their Language Arts class.
Students are allowed to check out up to two books.  The maximum circulation period is two weeks.  If the item is not returned or is damaged, the following notification policy will be followed.
Week one: 1st over due notice/bill sent to student
Week two: 2nd over due notice/bill sent to student.
Week three: Student will be given a written warning regarding detention for overdues.
Week four: Detention will be issued to the student.  Student has now had the book for seven weeks.
Week five +:  Detentions will continue to be issued until the problem is cleared.
Students with longstanding over dues will lose library privileges.
